RAC Bulletin 2011-028E – Tropical Storm Maria
I’m forwarding this on behalf of NL Section Manager VO1VZ who is on vacation.
It is now evident that Tropical Storm Maria will have a direct impact on Newfoundland, particularly the Avalon Peninsula. Due to a low pressure system that will likely merge, exact track is difficult to predict although in the effected area storm surge, pounding surf, high winds and 50 – 75 mm of rain can be expected.
As a result, full activation of a NL Hurricane/CANWARN Net will commence at 1430Z Friday and will continue for the duration of the event. We will be using 3.740 Mhz for the HF Net and the NL Linked VHF repeater system. Those of you who are able, please monitor in case short distance propagation is poor (as it likely will be) and you might assist with relays. Access to the NL Linked repeater system can be obtained through Echo Link – VO1ARG repeater in Argentia, NL. NL Hams are reminded that today would be a good time to tie things down and fill your generators as well as stock up some food. Lets hope all the above won’t be neccessary and Maria will pass far east of us.
Thanks for your usual cooperation in keeping these frequencies clear.
