North East Ontario Regional Directors Report for June 2013
Once again Radio Amateurs of Canada was at Dayton. Due to the great response we received last year we doubled the size of our booth. Last year visitors often overflowed into the aisle outside of our booth so we made room for Canadian Amateurs to visit and talk to other Canadians and RAC officials. I have not seen the final number but approximately 200 Canadian Amateurs stopped by to say hello and sign our guest book.
Our message to all Canadian Amateurs is that RAC is fiscally solvent, check out the audit results published in TCA from November for complete results.
Membership is rising, admittedly we are not beating off members but the numbers are increasing. To quote my financial advisor regarding my portfolio, "There are no bad ups", I believe this applies to membership as well. Three years ago there were no Maple Leaf Members, today we have over 250. These are Canadian Amateurs who believe in RAC and are willing to pay $100 to support their organisation. Thanks.
We are in the final phases of completing our contract to update the exam questions with Industry Canada. I think this shows the value that IC sees in RAC by having them update the question bank. And I will declare my bias!
Don't forget that on July 1st the RAC Canada Day contest will be held. For complete details check out the RAC website at http://www.rac.ca/en/programmes/contests/files/2013%20Canada%20Day%20Rules%20and%20Entry%20Form%20-%20English-French.pdf.
The other outreach program we are starting webinars and inviting RAC Maple Leaf Members, RAC Affiliated Club Presidents and ARES members who are RAC members to information webinars. Look for your invitation in your e-mail inbox. Other Directors will be holding similar webinars throughout the year.
RAC is also looking for recipients of our scholarship grants. If you know of an Amateur who is in a Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) program please contact me for information on applying or goto the RAC web site for full details. Do you know of a high school that is doing a project using Amateur Radio that would qualify as well. See http://www.rac.ca/en/rac/donations/foundation/grant-info.php for more information.
Finally since this is the June issue of my Director's Report it will be the last one until September. Many clubs take a bit of a hiatus during the summer and I will as well. However if there is breaking news I will certainly keep you all informed. Have a safe summer.
